Salkantay Trek 5 Days to Machu Picchu

TREK Day 01: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA

We start early in the morning, passing by the hotel to pick it up and transport it to Mollepata small town located at an altitude of 2850 m.s. of temperate climate. From this point we can appreciate the Salkantay snow peak with a height of 6200 m.s.n.m. And we will start our walk appreciating a varied landscape of jungle brow during the tour, where we will have time to have lunch and continue with our walk until we reach Soraypampa where our first camp will be. Our trek for this day is tired, for which we need good trekking shoes, have warm clothes for the night and not carry much luggage.

TREK Day 02: SORAYPAMPA – NEVADO SALKANTAY – CHAULLAY

After our break, we will get up to take our breakfast and continue our journey, on this day a long walk awaits us. We will begin to walk for a moderate climb for two hours until we reach the Abra or “Paso del Salkantay” (4,600 masl). we will take the opportunity to take pictures in front of the Salkantay Snowy. Then we will start descending for two and a half hours to the lunch place in Huayracmachay. After a quick rest, we will continue our trek downhill towards the jungle. After about two hours, we will arrive to Chaullay, where we will spend the night. This day we will appreciate the clearly Andean landscape and a variety of typical jungle-browed orchids.

TREK Day 03: CHAULLAY – PLAYA SAHUAYACO – SANTA TERESA

After breakfast at 06:30 a.m. We continue with the hike through the high jungle, crossing the Lluskamayo river and a variety of small streams. We will pass through magnificent valleys that have wonderful waterfalls, and some tropical fruits and plants, appreciating a variety of coca crops, considered the sacred leaf of our ancestors of the Inca empire which is currently cultivated in tropical areas, this last section will be descent to Sahuayaco Beach and from there to Santa Teresa where we will spend the night.

TREK Day 05: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

We catch a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, the buses start running from 5:30-6am. What does this mean? This means that all the people who took the 1st bus are most likely going to get to Macchu Picchu before others and be the first enjoying the Sunrise, also well rested and relaxed and with full of energy for climb Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain if you decide it.

Macchu Picchu is an incredible spectacle of architecture, culture, and history,

Macchu Picchu is special , and watching the sun break the mountains and illuminate the city of stone is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The setting for the ancient city is absolutely stunning, and the feeling of reaching it by foot over 5 days of such intense physical exertion and the swath of rugged terrain that you’ve since left behind makes the entire moment of standing atop Macchu Picchu much more rewarding than had you simply taken a train from Cusco and then a bus to the top.

Overall this journey is highly recommended, just be sure to bring some good rain gear, some really strong bug repellent, and be prepared for an absolute madhouse on the final day of the trek “cause after 10 am thousands of tourist are coming from Cusco in a day trip to Machu Picchu.

Ok, so here’s the deal with Huayna Picchu. Only the first 400 people who got to the entrance fees can climb Huayna Picchu, the famous little mountain that sits inside of Machu Picchu. 200 hundred people at 7:00 am and other 200 hundred at 10:00 am. If you want to do it, please let us know at the moment of your reservation.

At 6:45p.m. (depending on availability), you will be taking a train to Ollantaytambo and from there; a bus will drive you to Cusco.

Arriving approximately at 22:30 pm

End of our Services

TRAVEL NOTE TO MACHUPICCHU:

For the entrances to Machu Picchu have 3 different options to visit the Inca city:

  • First option: Entrance to Machu Picchu (this option is included for all tours).
  • Second option: Entrance to Machu Picchu + Huaynapicchu mountain.
  • Third option: Entrance ticket to Machu Picchu + Montaña Machu Picchu.

** The tickets for these 3 options are valid only for one day. “For example,” it is impossible to do with the same entrance ticket one day to visit Machupicchu and the other day to Huaynapicchu mountain. “For example” It can not be done with the same Huaynapicchu Ticket and Machu Picchu Mountain because the 3 entry options to Machu Picchu are clear and specific.

** But if you want to make an extra mountain like Montaña Huaynapicchu (you must book 4 months in advance for the high season from May to September) or mountain Machu Picchu (1/2 monthly advance); and we also recommend having one more night in Aguas Calientes or return by train (this recommendation has enough time to visit Machupicchu and up to Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu mountain)

** Train schedules available from Cusco (Peru Rail / Inca Rail) – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes (village machupicchu):
