Day 01: Huaraz – Chiquián – Llamac – Pocpa – Quartelhuain (4,180 m)

Our adventure begins in the city of Huaraz, from where we travel south through traditional Andean villages until reaching Quartelhuain, the starting point of the Huayhuash trek.

Along the way, we enjoy the first landscapes of the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash range. Upon arrival, we set up our camp surrounded by mountains and nature.

Camp: Quartelhuain (4,180 m)

Day 02: Quartelhuain – Cacananpunta Pass (4,700 m) – Mitucocha Lake (4,230 m)

After breakfast, we begin our hike toward the first major challenge of the circuit: Cacananpunta Pass, located at 4,700 meters above sea level.

From this point, we enjoy stunning high-Andean views before descending to the beautiful Mitucocha Lake, where we set up camp facing the mountains.

Distance: approx. 8 km
Camp: Mitucocha (4,230 m)

Day 03: Mitucocha Lake – Punta Carhuac Pass (4,630 m) – Carhuacocha Lake (4,140 m)

We continue the trek ascending toward Punta Carhuac Pass, where we enjoy one of the first great panoramic views of the Huayhuash circuit.

The landscape features the towering peaks Siula Grande and Yerupajá, reflected in the waters of the impressive Carhuacocha Lake.

Distance: approx. 9 km
Camp: Carhuacocha (4,140 m)

Day 04: Carhuacocha Lake – Siula Pass (4,800 m) – Huayhuash (4,350 m)

This will be one of the most memorable days of the journey. We reach the famous Siula viewpoint, known for offering one of the most photographed views of the Huayhuash range.

From here, we can observe the three lakes: Quesillococha, Siula, and Gangrajanca, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks.

Distance: approx. 14 km
Camp: Huayhuash (4,350 m)

Day 05: Huayhuash – Portachuelo Pass (4,770 m) – Viconga Lake – Guñog Hot Springs

The route continues toward the southern end of the range. We ascend Portachuelo Pass, a spectacular natural viewpoint overlooking the Raura mountain range.

Finally, we arrive at Viconga Lake, where we can relax in natural hot springs, a perfect moment to recover energy.

Camp: Viconga (4,350 m)

Day 06: Guñog Hot Springs – Cuyoc Pass (5,000 m) – Cuyocpampa (4,560 m)

One of the most impressive days of the Huayhuash trek. We cross Cuyoc Pass at 5,000 meters, enjoying panoramic views of major peaks such as:

Cuyoc, Puscanturpa, Trapecio, Siula, Yerupajá, Sarapo, and Jurao.

Optionally, we may hike to San Antonio Viewpoint (5,020 m), one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the entire route.

Hiking: approx. 6 hours
Distance: approx. 9 km
Camp: Cuyocpampa (4,560 m)

Day 07: Cuyocpampa – Santa Rosa Pass (5,060 m) – Huayllapa (3,600 m)

This day we reach the highest point of the circuit: Santa Rosa Pass, at over 5,000 meters.

We then descend through Andean landscapes until reaching the traditional village of Huayllapa, a small community surrounded by mountains.

Hiking: approx. 9 hours
Distance: approx. 18 km
Camp: Huayllapa (3,600 m)

Day 08: Huayllapa – Tapush Pass (4,790 m) – Gashpapampa (4,560 m)

We continue ascending toward Punta Tapush Pass, a great natural viewpoint from where we can admire the majestic Diablo Mudo peak (5,350 m).

The route combines valleys, mountains, and wide high-Andean plains.

Hiking: approx. 7 hours
Distance: approx. 12 km
Camp: Gashpapampa (4,560 m)

Day 09: Gashpapampa – Punta Llaucha Pass (4,850 m) – Jahuacocha Lake (4,100 m)

Our path leads us to Punta Llaucha Pass, one of the best viewpoints of the entire circuit.

From here, we admire an incredible chain of peaks:
Rondoy, Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupajá Chico, Yerupajá Grande, Rasac, and Siula.

Finally, we arrive at the famous Jahuacocha Lake, considered one of the natural jewels of Huayhuash.

Camp: Jahuacocha (4,100 m)

Day 10: Jahuacocha Lake – Pampa Llamac Pass (4,270 m) – Llamac – Huaraz

The final day of our adventure. We descend through the Huayllan valley, surrounded by ichu grasslands and quenual forests, until reaching the village of Llamac.

From here, we conclude our Huayhuash 10-day trek and return by transport to the city of Huaraz.

  • Briefing: An information session before the trek with your guide and other group members, which can be held at your hotel or at our office by prior arrangement.
  • Transportation: From/to your hotel in Huaraz to the start/end point of the trek.
  • Camping equipment: We use high-quality mountain tents (2 people per tent) and personal sleeping mats. Individual tents are available for an additional USD 60.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (vegetarian and vegan options available).
  • We provide all cooking and dining utensils, including chairs and plates, as well as tents for guests to enjoy their meals.
  • Trekking guide: Certified, bilingual (English/Spanish) guide.
  • Cook: A trained cook who prepares a variety of healthy dishes.
  • Mule driver: Responsible for loading and leading the mules.
  • Mules: The number of mules depends on the size of the group.
  • Duffle bag: This will be carried by the donkeys and must not exceed 7 kg/15 lbs. It will contain your sleeping bag and personal belongings. During the day, you will only carry your backpack with items you will use during the trek.
